A Sacred Sanctuary

Vunika Mariamma Temple

Welcome to the deeply revered and historic destination located in Vunika, Labasa, Fiji. Dedicated to Goddess Mariamman, serving as a powerful spiritual anchor for locals and visitors alike.

Since 1937

Our Sacred History

The Vunika Mariamma Temple holds a profound place in our community's history, dating back to its humble beginnings in 1937. It was founded through the vision and dedication of three community pioneers: Pon Naicker, Kanda, and Wateru.

The Sacred Gift & Humble Beginnings

In a beautiful act of devotion, Kanda donated the sacred statue of Mariamman Matha to the Vunika community. This divine gift became the heart and soul of our community's spiritual life. To house the sacred deity, the founders built a simple, humble structure using tin and iron, with a natural soil floor. From these modest, faith-filled beginnings, our temple has grown into the cherished spiritual sanctuary it is today.

A Temple Built by the Community

In 1994, the temple underwent a historic transformation. Facing the natural wear and tear of time, our community united with incredible devotion to construct a brand-new temple building. Devoted members volunteered their time and skills, while local business Shiu Narayan & Sons Hardware generously provided materials. The community successfully paid off the entire material debt using funds collected during the annual Pooja.

Sacred Installation

A week-long sacred installation ceremony was conducted by Swamy Rajesh Reddy to perfectly establish the divine presence of Mariamman Matha. The original statue was respectfully returned to nature.
